Dr. Lal Bhatia, known for his legal victory and the publication of *Indicting Goliath*, has taken on a new mission to support menstrual hygiene in West Bengal. Using proceeds from his book, Dr. Bhatia and his team have installed sanitary napkin vending machines in girls’ schools and colleges, ensuring that young girls from underprivileged backgrounds have access to affordable menstrual hygiene products.
Many young girls in these communities face significant challenges when it comes to managing their menstrual health. The lack of access to sanitary napkins often leads to health issues and forces girls to miss school during their periods. Dr. Bhatia’s initiative aims to address this problem by making sanitary napkins available through vending machines in schools and colleges, ensuring that girls can continue their education without interruption.
This project is part of Dr. Bhatia’s broader commitment to social service. During the recent Durga Puja celebrations, he distributed thousands of face masks to promote public safety amid the pandemic. He has also been involved in food distribution drives, helping families in need in Kolkata.
Dr. Bhatia’s personal story is one of resilience and determination. After being falsely accused and imprisoned in the United States, he spent 13 years fighting to clear his name. His book Indicting Goliath documents his legal battle and exposes the corruption he faced within the U.S. justice system. [Reference Court Cases: CR-04-40071-CW, CR-05-00334-SBA, CV-09-05581-SBA and CV-10-00072-SBA] Despite the hardships he endured, Dr. Bhatia returned to India with a renewed sense of purpose, using his experiences to help others in need.
By addressing the issue of menstrual hygiene in West Bengal, Dr. Lal Bhatia is making a meaningful impact on the lives of young girls, ensuring they have the resources they need to lead healthy and productive lives.
